Mediation is just one of many methods of settling a dispute. The majority of cases can be settled by negotiation between the parties without help from a neutral mediator. Have you made any offers to settle? If not try that before incurring the cost of mediation. If negotiations have stalled – one side refuses to make an offer or both sides refuse to increase their last offer – then a mediator is skilled in helping you reach a settlement. The alternative is to go to trial.
