Philip Hesketh Commercial MediatorI completed my commercial mediator training in 2006 and became a full time Professional Mediator in 2008. Before that I had been working as a Solicitor since 1991. I practised in Liverpool and Manchester for many years before moving with my family to Lancaster. I worked as a litigator in general litigation but specialised in personal injury claims.

Mediation Experience

I have acted as lead commercial mediator in a wide range of disputes including commercial contracts, partnership disputes, boundary disputes, wills and probate claims, personal injury, employment and workplace disputes. Click here for examples of my cases or here to see my CV.

Mediation style

I believe thorough preparation by the parties creates the best opportunity for resolution so expect two or three conversations with me before the mediation. I prefer to start the process with a joint opening meeting and encourage the parties to speak at these. I believe some of the most constructive work at mediation is done when the parties are speaking face to face. However I have a flexible approach and adapt the process according to the  needs of the parties and the nature of the dispute. Wherever possible I encourage parties to be represented by solicitors or barristers who are experienced mediation advocates. I try to create a relaxed but professional environment.
